This was one of those where the prompt inspired one of the lines right at the beginning, which led me off in the direction of the story. I normally like weaving it in a bit more but this one had me stumped!
And yes, it's definitely a bit of a twist at the end... It's easy to ignore what one should or shouldn't do in the face of loneliness and desperation, even to the point of not caring in the moment despite knowing the ramifications. I was listening to the Imogen Heap song "The Walk" when this hit me and the idea finally came.
