This is so very true. I named my son James so that he had the option of nicknames if wanted: James is more formal (and right now, preferred), Jimmy is the fun kid who gets into a bit of trouble (I called him St. Jimmy while I was pregnant, lol), Jamie is the cool skater kid, and Jim is the "I can be serious and yet playful" version. Or he could spell it Jaymz. I wanted to give him options, because it's his name, and he has to live with it (or, if wanted, change it later).
My mother was going to name me Christopher Robin (yes, like in Winnie the Pooh, and that would have been my full first name) if I had been a boy. She's... yeah.
