I think that people in our general age range are in a weird spot where we grew up watching this massive technological growth in real time. When I was younger, I was all about all of the new tech coming out, but as I get older I find less and less appreciation for it.
There have definitely been some amazing things that have happened as a result of the internet and people being more connected to each other, but I think that social media in particular has had a net negative affect on society. It's too hard to communicate any sort of nuance on anything when everything is presented as bite-sized chunks, and it's too easy to just be divisive and to think of people online as just things that exist in your phone.
I'm hopeful though that humanity will be able to get over this hump.
