It's funny you mention that about Throbbing Gristle, because when I write things for Idol, I really am writing them for myself first. I get done with a piece, give it a few read-throughs to make sure there aren't spots that are coming across super-clunky, and I generally think to myself, 'I'm pretty proud of this. I like this.' I guess that's as good a place as any to start.
