Yep - this actually takes place about 15 years after the last one I wrote (I'm being purposefully vague about the exact years, although I have them planned out on my drafts, but each story takes place in one of three "phases" stretching about five years with a few years in between each phase).
Definitely COVID was the main catalyst inspiration for this whole series, but I think at this point in the timeline, the Disease isn't really a thing anymore, but the threat of it is still being used to control certain areas of the country. In my mind, the QCs are in "flyover area" and there's almost a Mad Max sort-of thing going on in that area. :)
